• Apparently I like a challenge. I am moving all my hosting to BlueHost but keeping domains registered where they are for now.

I built a new WordPress site with MAMP.
Exported files and database to desktop.
    Created subdomain synergy.all-connected.com with 1&1.
Added AddOn subdomain of same name to BlueHost.
Pointed 1&1 subdomain to BlueHost IP address.
Added files to BlueHost via FTP.
Created a new database with BlueHost and uploaded MAMP database to it.
Changed the WP-config.php info to BlueHost db settings. (BlueHost advised the Host is localhost – is this right?)
Also changed the location in WP settings to synergy.all-connected.com

My issue is the site is not showing up. Also it re-directs to https://synergy.all-connected.com:8888 and the wp-login page redirects to https://localhost:8888/wp-login.php.

This tells me there is something that is still pointing to the local server and I don’t know what.

Please can anyone see where I missed a step or why it’s not working. This is my first time working with MAMP and so far it’s been great! But moving the site has been a challenge, probably due to all the pieces involved.

    Thanks!

  • Created a new database with BlueHost and uploaded MAMP database to it.

And that’s where you went wrong. See Moving_WordPress.

Very interesting. Thank you for your fast response @esmi!

Under the section, “If You Want Your Old Blog To Still Work”, I just did the steps of downloading MAMP db, re-uploading to BlueHost db, changed the config.php info, then re-uploaded the files. I could see that I had changed the url in the admin panel after uploading the files. I thought that might have been the problem after reading your link.

Now my screen shows “Error establishing a database connection”

This is an improvement of sorts as there is no reference to the localhost in the url anymore.

Any other advice as to where I went wrong?

    https://synergy.all-connected.com

    Thank you!

I stand corrected. When refreshing that url on Firefox, it still redirects to https://synergy.all-connected.com:8888 but not with Safari.

If it’s doing different things with different browsers, then you need to clear at least the Cache and maybe Cookies from both browsers then you will see the true site from both. (Redirects can be remembered in the browser cache)
