styling by category – best practice?

before the theme twenty twenty two, i used the category slug in the source code to style archives depending on their categories. in twenty twenty two, the category is not included in the source code anymore. what could be the best way to use the category as an indication for css style adaptations? creating a template for each category seems a bit cumbersome to me.
