Stylesheet links appear broken after attempted subdomain creation
-
I’m not really sure where this belongs, but I’ll give as much information as possible to help describe the problem.
I was trying to create a Staging subdomain on my website, (ex.: “dev.mysite.com”), and I don’t think it was successful. I created the subdomain, and a matching directory, created an FTP account for it, but was never able to access a “Index of cgi_bin” page by typing in dev.mysite.com, so I left it alone for another day.
Everything on myste.com appeared normal until this morning (thanks, cache) when the site seems to have a broken link in some stylesheet. This previous topic comes close to my issue, but not quite. My entire website shows a text-only site containing a top left Hyperlink “Skip to content,” and a placeholder for the theme’s background image. All JavaScript animations appear to be working and all my fonts look correct. It seems like my theme disconnected with its CSS, PHP, or JavaScript styles because most media displays, but its placement or layout it wrong. But I’m just intuiting this based on the symptoms.
- I deleted the subdomain, directory, and ftp account.
- I am using Proper Lite (free) Theme pretty much out of the box. I changed to the Twenty Sixteen theme, and encountered the same problem.
- I verified on phpMyAdmin that the
Site:
andHome:
URL were “mysite.com” in thewp_options
table. - Deactivating all plug-ins except my Maintenance Mode seems to bring back the site as it was.
- I cussed to myself a little.
I don’t know what else to do or where else to go. I am not experienced in PHP, or WordPress problems, or the technical side of WordPress…I’m a lowly graphic designer. Assume you are talking to a kindergartner.
