Hi Waqaspuri,
Not a stupid question at all ??
The default RSS feed included in WordPress and various themes often does not meet the technical requirements for use in the Google News Publisher Center.
GN Publisher is designed to output RSS feeds that meet the requirements, and to add some additional optimizations as well.
One of those optimizations is that it uses Google’s PubWubHubbub system to alert Google News when a new post is published. You don’t need the other plugin for use with the feeds that GN Publisher generates.
Other optimizations include that GN Publisher makes attempts (in most cases successful) to avoid the feed from being cached (so Google always gets a fresh copy) and provides some basic diagnostics, such as when Google was last pinged with an update and when the crawler last fetched one of the GN Publisher feeds. Those last two things help identify issues like the crawler being blocked by web hosting companies (it’s not a well known Google crawler, so sometimes it gets blocked by mistake).
There’s a few other things too – but overall, if you are using your standard RSS feed in the Publisher Center and you aren’t having any trouble with it, there’s no need to use GN Publisher.
If you are having problems with your feed in the Google News Publisher Center, including the ‘no articles’ error message, featured images not being displayed, or slow updating, GN Publisher can usually help solve the problem(s),
