You can programmatically check enrollment using this function: llms_is_user_enrolled() (https://github.com/gocodebox/lifterlms/blob/master/includes/functions/llms.functions.person.php#L132-L147)

In practice:

$user_id = get_current_user_id();
$course_id = 36;

if ( llms_is_user_enrolled( $user_id, $course_id ) {
   // user is enrolled
} else {
   // user is not enrolled
}

This function can be used to check membership enrollment in addition to courses
