• I got all the way to ‘Step 4: Upload the files’ and have no idea what this means.

‘If your files are already on your web server, and you are using shell access to install WordPress, move all of the contents of the wordpress directory (but not the directory itself) into the root directory of your website.’

Do I need to move the wordpress folder somewhere? It’s currently in my Home folder on ubuntu 16.04.

    Halp!

  • Hi
Are you trying to do a local install? If not, you would have to upload your files to the home directory of your webhost. Which company this you buy hosting from?

What’s a local install? Basically, I’m installing it on my laptop using the terminal on linux, which I think is local, right?

My domain is through Register.ly and my hosting will be through Bluehost, but I haven’t set that up yet. Do I need to?

    Thanks for the help!

If you want to “play” with WP on your local computer then you should first install some kind of local server. Since you’re on Linux then download and install XAMP – https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html

If you want to have a website on the internet, you have to upload WordPress to your hosting and install it. Read more about it on The Famous 5-minute Installation
