• Been trying to clone a website to a new location but each time I try to import it, it gets stuck on “restoring database”. This causes the whole site to go down. The files seem to transfer, but you can’t even access the admin area anymore. I’ve been using clean installs of WordPress. And I’ve deactivated any plugins that are known to cause issues. I am using Bluehost VPS.

Should I try to export with all plugins deactivated?

One more question, I’m no pro, so if I am importing to a new domain, should I set the export with a find and replace to have it switch the domains within the database? Would this ultimately change all the existing links?

    Thanks

  • Had this issue last night. It seems that my account can no longer access anything. Asked for help. After two hours of back and forth with Pim, I was told “This is something that our plugin has nothing to do with since our plugin only migrates everything within your wp-content folder not wp-admin.” So I went in and looked for myself, and found that I was in database. Emailed again and told them so. Haven’t gotten a response. This whole thing is starting to smell fishy, especially because I paid the $60 for the Unlimited Extension.

We too have seen this issue on a database that is only 6MB in size – full size import is currently at 42MB. Generic (non replacing) run with ONLY the DB being exported stops at “restoring database” as does a full export (media, themes etc.).

It was working fine prior to 4.6 – and tried versions 5.47, 5.48 and the latest (where it was first discovered) 5.49. Typical LAMP stack.

    Thanks!

hello – having the same issue – hung at 27% for 5 hrs – finally cancelled the import and had to restore from an installatron backup.

with regards to the find/replace – is it not meant to be used to change all references to the staging site??

    ie find: https://www.currentsite.com
    replace: https://www.staging.currentsite.com

    thanks.

    @mrcavallo

Find and replace is used for updating the site url, if you are moving domains, or for migrating a dev or staging site to the live site.

I really appreciate your help, Luke Cavanagh.
Please kindly allow me to correct you – Find/Replace should be used when you would like to replace any values in the database.

Our plugin detects the old and new URLs for you automatically, mrcavallo, so you can leave Find/Replace empty.

Thanks for following up on this. It could be related to some time-out on the server. I seem to recall once having to modify the memory limit in a PHP file to get it to run. Or maybe that was a different one. ??

    hello,

i have tried a number of times and the file seems to import ok – about 210MB – i assume this is uploading it?

then it changes to ‘restoring’ but then it always hangs on this stage at about 24-27%

is this still a time-out issue once it gets to the restore stage?

i have not made and find/replace changes.

    thanks.

ok – i have found a workaround. it seems the import was having problems with my theme – Avada.

so when exporting the last time, i ticked:
Do not export media library (files)
    Do not export themes (files)

i then manually copied over all my images and theme folders to the staging folder.

then i imported the All in One import file and the site works a treat.

i actually feel more comfortable doing it this way as it reduces the import file considerably and it is much easier to copy of the physical files using FTP.

    cheers.
