• Been trying to clone a website to a new location but each time I try to import it, it gets stuck on “restoring database”. This causes the whole site to go down. The files seem to transfer, but you can’t even access the admin area anymore. I’ve been using clean installs of WordPress. And I’ve deactivated any plugins that are known to cause issues. I am using Bluehost VPS.

    Should I try to export with all plugins deactivated?

    One more question, I’m no pro, so if I am importing to a new domain, should I set the export with a find and replace to have it switch the domains within the database? Would this ultimately change all the existing links?

    Thanks

  • I am having the same issue.

    Yes. Me too. In the past I have restored the old database and had another go. After 2 or three attempts it has worked – but not this time.

    Hi all,

    I am sorry for the inconvenience.
    The plugin will automatically detect those for you.
    You only need to fill in Find/Replace if you want to replace any values in the database.

    Got that part thanks. But the bigger question was why it’s getting stuck and blanking out my site. Any help is appreciated.

    I got it to complete an import by deactivating all the plugins on the site I was exporting before exporting it. But, upon import, it seems like anything that utilizes javascript is now broken. Is there something else I can try? was hoping for a simple means of duplicating this site.

    Thanks Luke, that will be my next stop.

    I have used All-in-One WP Migration for a bunch of client site migrations as well, just fine.

    I tried duplicator with the same result. Everything that utilizes javascript is broken. Sought professional help…thanks folks.

    @bpcdale

    Have used both migration plugin and not had any JS issues before on the target site.

    Anyone figure this out, I am having the same problem?

    Hi dustinww,

    Did you use Find/Replace on export?
    How large is the .wpress backup you are importing?

    What does find/replace have to do with the restoration hanging on Bluehost? I am able to migrate easily to my own host (HostGator, where it was created) but it will not install on Bluehost.

    foothillweb,

    I just wanted to make sure. Some users do not use Find/Replace correctly – they put their old URL for Find and Replace with the new URL, and 20% of this error is from this reason.

    How large is your database (from the site you have exported from)?
    What are your mysql.connect_timeout and max_execution_time on your new site (Bluehost)?

    @foothillweb

    What the specific issue you where having on the Bluehost hosted site when you import the backup file into All-in-One WP Migration?

    The issue I’m having is the same one that the author describes. The site migration hangs at the restoration step. The icon just spins and it never restores. The restoration file is under 100MB. I can’t provide the other info because I had to abandon Bluehost and put it on my own reseller acct. on Hostgator, where it loaded with no problem. I’m not a techie, just a front-end designer so if it doesn’t work out of the box it’s difficult for me to troubleshoot. Thanks for your response anyway. I suggest you try the process yourself to see if you can verify the issue.
