I have just installed Version 1.5.2.2 on a new blog and surprised to see that the option to strip /category/ is not there.

Is the option still available, but hidden? Or will updating remove this option?

My main website has the /category/ stripped out. Cannot afford to upgrade if this option is no longer available.

    thanks.

  • That option is removed from latest version because it doesn’t have any impact on SEO, but you can use WP No Category Base plugin or 301 redirect.

No category base plugin was updated two years ago.

The removal of this feature is a very unpleasant surprise – and an author of a _SEO_ plugin should know better. Links pointing to original, /category/-less URLs will land on 404 errors for example.

No impact on SEO? Clean links look more professional IMO – that is important for some websites.

Will look into the other plugin.

I went for WP No Base Permalink, Version 0.2.2, By Sergio P.A. (23r9i0)

It was updated 2 months ago, the others 2 years ago. More recent seems safer …. although I really have no idea!

    Marking as resolved.

    Thanks.
