Stripe API Version and SCA
-
I support this website which is UK based and uses the Stripe payments plugin to set up subscriptions which is all working fine at the moment but I just received an email from Stripe complaining that the API the gateway uses is not suitable for SCA transactions. The gateway is using API ‘2019-09-09’ but the latest Stripe API is ‘2020-08-27’. I understand the API in use does support SCA but is an upgrade required?

Thank you for choosing Stripe! We’re writing because we noticed your account is impacted by a regulatory requirement called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). SCA requires two-factor authentication on many payments in Europe. Payments that are not authenticated are at risk of being declined by your customers’ banks.
Your account (The Social History Society of the UK) has payments (like this one) in live mode using the Charges API, which does not support the authentication requirements of SCA. We recommend reaching out to your plugin developer about using one of our SCA-ready integration paths to avoid more declined European payments.
