• Hi Jacques,
I have been thinking about this since the time I started using the plugin; I think we can have a significant improvement in activations after registration.

By activation form I mean the form they have to fill out the first time they enter site-change password, specify their age, weight etc. and what they are looking for.

    1. There are several menus there- I AM, DATE OF BIRTH, MY COUNTRY,..LOOKING FOR , FOR TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP, etc…they are all in box selections with scroll. I think it would be much better if you convert them to drop-down selections, as you have in the Quick search (Búsqueda rapida) in the right hand side panel. The drop down is a much more PRECISE way to select, and you can see immediately if you have forgotten to fill out a field (it should remain blank by default). The box selection you have right now throws off people.

I checked with many dating sites, hotel booking engines, flight booking engines, etc. and all use drop-downs. It is a more accurate way of taking form inputs rather than box selections with scroll.

This will make the form more compact, and they will be able to see the error message above more easily also.

    2. Break up the form in several sections. This is a classic technique for form inputs-take a large form and break it up into small forms-step by step ask them to fill it out. It also makes error correction easy.

Reference (I love Jotform, have used many others as well, but there is no comparison)
    https://www.jotform.com/help/119-How-to-Create-Multi-Page-Forms

A google search will give you more results on this technique of splitting large forms into smaller ones to make conversions better.

The least you can do for Rencontre is to break up the password change part as one form, and all the others as another part (after changing menus to drop downs). In all, 2 forms in this scheme.

Ideally though, it would be 4 different forms-with you going to the next part only after successfully filling out the previous ones. The four parts are
    -change password
    -About me Part 1
    -About me Part 2
    -What I am looking for
exactly as you have in the divisions right now. The key is to have maximum 4 fields in one form-makes filling out the form really painless.

With these two implemented, especially the first one of using drop-down menus, I think we will see a much better activation rate for sites using Rencontre.

    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Hi Sanjay,
I have noted your idea of dropdown selection. It is a good idea.
I’m not so sure about your second proposal that is fashionable but not necessarily relevant. I know people who are annoyed by that method.

A later version (not for now) will allow the changing in templates and thus customize these two aspects. This will allow each creator to have the dating website they want.

    Ok Jacques, great!

On the second one, I don’t care about it being fashionable either; just think that errors are easier to see when there are a small number of fields. Specially the username change with the two time insertion of a password is throwing people off (I am getting some emails about that from users-if you can separate that from personal details and what they are looking for, that would be nice).

Longer term, the ideal ideal registration form would let them choose their password right on the first screen when they want to register. So the fields would be
    1. nickname
    2. password
    3. email

that’s the most efficient way..example is parejafiel.com one of my sites. No need to confirm password, etc., just their email.

What really throws them off is the capital letter wordpress generated password-most people DO NOT understand that passwords are case sensitive; and I keep getting problem emails regarding that everyday.

With wordpress you can even bake cookies, so I am sure there must be some way to do this…:)

But I am glad you are a go on the first suggestion of drop-down menus; which will itself be a major improvement.

    Sanjay

    Hi Jacques,
Bumping this up again, loads of users have problems at this page (they have written to me), they never are able to get past this complicated way of account activation…could you please simplify this in the next updates.

    Hi Sanjay,

    It’s done! You’re right, it’s better.
    V1.6 Update 4.

    Hi Jacques,
Installed, looks good, but a major problem maybe…testing it out as a new user who registers for the first time.
In the last screen, 4/4 I put the new password twice. The system logs me out.

When I try to enter the site with the NEW password, it doesn’t work; it still needs the old password.

In effect, 4/4 is not doing anything; it is not changing the password.

If you can replicate the problem from your side, I would also ask you to not logout the user (as it was before), keep them logged in with the new password, just like before. It throws people off to log out and make them login again.

But overall breaking it up into 4 steps looks nice, sure.
