    Hello people!

I am setting up an e-commerce site for a client who has some video content that they’d like to ‘sell’.

I was wondering if there might be a way for them to add a streamable video as a digital product (not for download). We’d ideally want to do this in a way where a customer who gains access to the content cannot then share their link with others to stream the content without having paid.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,

    James

  • Hey @squibblejim !

Absolutely, what you would want to do is create a page that you would add the streaming video to. Then you would use either our Membership extension or a restricted content plugin.

This will allow you to sell “access” to the restricted pages. I know all these options talk about memberships, you do not need to configure memberships. You are just using the plugin for the restricted content feature. The customers on your site would not see it as a membership unless you wanted it to be.

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the reply!

We currently have memberpress set up as the site will generally require signup to access anything. We’re also using it for a livestream feature that the website will have (pay to view that expires after a certain time).

Do you know if we would be able to use Memberpress in the way that you have suggested?

    Many thanks,

    James

    Hey @squibblejim !

I am not familiar with Memberpress so I can not say this for sure. However, I was able to find a guide for protecting content with Memberpress. I would read through this to better understand how to do it.

However, the tricky piece is that I do not know how you would sell that with WooCommerce. You may be able to reach out to Memberpress to see if they have any ideas for that. I hope this helps.

    Hey Tony,

Thanks again for getting back to me.

Yeah I think it’s best for me to reach out to Memberpress.

    All the best,

    James

    Hello again!

Sorry to close and then re-open this.

Having spoken to Memberpress, I’m not really satisfied with their solution so I may consider switching to a different plugin. With their setup I’d have to create a new membership and rule for every PPV video (due to them being different prices) I added which just seems overcomplicated.

We’re limited to a budget of $150 unfortunately, but could the restricted content plugins you linked me to previously be used effectively?

    Many thanks,

    James

    Hi James,

Since we haven’t tried any of the third-party restricted content plugins, I’d recommend testing each of them out to see which one works best for your needs.

I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
