• For some time now, I’ve wondered why my site is listed in SERPs as:

Broughton School of Motoring: Driving lessons in Scunthorpe and Brigg

despite the fact I’ve set it up to read:

Driving lessons in Scunthorpe and Brigg: Broughton School of Motoring

    See: https://ibb.co/TvdHYRw and https://ibb.co/grv3fRy

    I use Yoast.

If anyone can suggest what is going on here, I would be very grateful!

    I use Yoast.

Please ask plugin specific questions in that plugin’s dedicated sub-forum instead.

I don’t think it’s a Yoast issue. I added that I use Yoast for information.

One place in WordPress might be to double-check the site title and tagline as they might take those two items and add them together to derive the name they wish to call the site by.

Looking at your RSS feed shows the Title as

    Broughton School of Motoring

    with

Driving lessons and intensive driving courses in Scunthorpe and Brigg

    as the description…

You can change those via the customizer or the settings pages. Check both pages when you’re done just to double-check. You might also try setting the title alone to what you want and leave the description (tagline) blank.

I don’t think it is a WordPress issue from what I see.

Possibly one of the SEO experts at Yoast might be able to help you with that problem though or else whatever search engine says that ‘backwards’ might be the place to ask. We don’t hold any ‘sway’ with the search engines.

One thing to possibly look at might be the webmaster tools at the search engines that feature those tools.

    @jnashhawkins Many thanks!

What you say makes sense. The title of the site in general settings and customiser is, as you say, ‘Broughton School of Motoring’ and the description is ‘driving lessons and intensive driving courses in Scunthorpe and Brigg’.

I don’t really want to change them around.

I’ll see what the people at Yoast say.

Many thanks for your suggestions, they’re much appreciated.
