    Hi,

This is a “feature” of WordPress – when a page is requested that doesn’t match anything, it searches the database for pages that have a similar URL, and if it finds one, it redirects to that page. I don’t think it’s a major issue and you can let it do that.

There are no discontinued urls for my site but bots seem to create random urls which I kept adding manually (pain in the neck).

In that case, you shouldn’t be using this plugin ;). The correct response for random URLs that never existed is 404 (what WordPress does by default). 410 explicitly says “there used to be something here, but it’s gone now”.

    Very good info. Thanks
