I had setup MailPoet properly a month ago.

Since then, I’ve been experimenting with my setup. I’ve installed plugins that I experimented with till I found the right ones and had set them in ideal setups.

This experimentation had led me to revert to site backups a few times.

I have previous computer code as well as graphic design experience. I never had any experience in relation to email until now.

Also, I believe it was MailPoet that mentioned it, or it may have been another source. But, yes, I ended up using online email testing tools that revealed to me the reputation of my emails sent from my domain. That is, reputation, as well as a revealing of likelihood on whether my email would go to spam.

The results I saw from those tools had me concerned. So, I adjusted the dns setup of my email as a result of what the online tools were telling me in their reports.

That is, they mentioned not good enough spf, dkim, and things like that.

Like I said, this was the first time I had a forray with dns related to email. So, I added in extra records of that variety.

That seemed to “help” when it came to those reports. In hindsight, that was a mistake. I know this too because I later had read in MailPoet’s own documentation that I’m only supposed to add the MailPoet suggested records and no extra spf, dkim, or DMARC records.

So, after seeing these new issues, I had attempted to fix the issues on my own. That is how I found out about MailPoet’s documentation which said not add any such records as I mentioned I added. In reaction to reading that, I removed all the added records.

I even had become confused and even removed the 2 mx records from my domain host. And then I saw issues with sending, so I added those 2 mx records from my host back. I also noticed mention of an “a” record pertaining to my host and me labelling it “mail.(mydomain.com)”. I was surprised to find that that record did not exist in my dns setup, so I added that in as a result.

So, now my dns setup combined with the 2 mx records I mentioned as well as the “a” record I also just mentioned is now setup to only have those records as well as the exact records mentioned in the MailPoet documentation.

When it comes to that, I wish MailPoet made this information more available, like on the email verification page, but instead it was buried in documentation. But, now, putting into consideration that I have those dns records setup in what I’m pretty sure is the exact right configuration, as well what I’m about to say, I don’t think this is even the issue. I still outlined that information just in case though.

So, like I said earlier, a month ago, my MailPoet setup was perfect, it did automations exactly as I set them up and sent the emails.

Now, today, as a result of me doing some of the things that I described, MailPoet is no longer functioning like it used to a month ago.

Well, as a quick explanation of that, I’ll say the following.

Even now, I still have MailPoet’s sending service handling WordPress emails. The funny thing is, it still sends those with no problem.

So, the actual problem is with the automations. I mean, the automations do nothing.

And, you can see I have tried multiple ways of fixing it including what I’ve already said. I also tried other ways too.

I clicked the button to reinstall MailPoet from inside of its settings and then redo the setup. That changed nothing, the automations still do not work.

I disabled the majority of my plugins, and when I tried it, the automations still did not work.

I even disabled MailPoet and deleted it, then I reinstalled it and set it up again, and it still did not work.

This makes me very confused too. Because the last couple things I mentioned I did were things I did after I wrote the majority of this message and the thought of attempting those things came to me as I was writing the message. Prior to attempting those things, I had a feeling there was something buggy with my installation of the MailPoet plugin that was causing this. But like I said, even after I delete the plugin and then reinstall it, the problem persists. This now makes me to believe this is not an issue with my installation and is instead some kind of bug that my MailPoet account linked to MailPoet’s server is experiencing.

Well, regardless, this is very strange. I have seen that MailPoet support staff monitor these forums and do offer help. So, I hope that that will happen and that this can be fixed for me, because I do want to use MailPoet, it is clearly one fine plugin in what it offers.

So, I will monitor this post.

    Hi there @philn83 ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

So, regarding the DNS records, if you are sending with the MailPoet Sending Service (you can check that in MailPoet > Settings > Send With…), you should indeed authenticate your sender domain by adding MailPoet DKIM and DMARC records as per these instructions.

The sender domain is the one set in MailPoet > Settings > Default Sender > From Email. It’s usually an email address from your website’s domain. If you haven’t authenticated it yet and you have more than 100 subscribers you should see a notification to authenticate your domain as shown here: https://d.pr/i/Pgk4Rh

If you want, let us know what’s your sender domain and we’ll be happy to check if the DNS records are correctly set up.

If the domain is authenticated, then the issue could be with the automation set up. Can you please send us a screenshot of your Automation (showing the trigger and actions you’ve set up)?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, I’ve experienced this same problem for 2 months now. And we have set DKIM and DMARC.

Automations just don’t send. I have even installed a fresh copy of WordPress, and new database in a Docker environment but I still get the same results.

I have executed the mailpoet_cron.php in the context of the WordPress directory using PHP and I keep getting an error about the host not being reachable.

I have pinged the mysql container from the php container and they talk fine. Even connected to the db inter-container.

It seems there are no other errors..
