Strange Comments – Spam?

  • Hello eveyone, I’m fairly new to WordPress and having my own website (having moved over from Blogger). It seems like I’m getting some pretty good traffic and some comments, but they seem strange.

    They are always in lower case, and always say how much they like my post/article. There’s also always a website link to some off the wall website. Is this some sort of Spam? Maybe I’m just not used to having this much interest and traffic.

  • Yes, it’s SPAM. There’s a few (lot…) of automatic comment posting scripts and programs out there that do this just to try and get free backlinks from your site. Plretty much every time I’ve seen a comment that is like “great post, i’ll recommend it to everyone” it’s got a link to osme domain that has nothing to do with mine. That’s what you’re getting and that’s the easiest way to tell that it’s SPAM.

    Install and activate Akismet plugin and 99% of them will go away.
