Somewhere between WP 5.5 and WP 5.7 upgrades, on my wp-admin page strange pure text “close” link started to appear at left upper quarter of the screen. The position of this link slightly lurks between refreshes/redraws of the screen (clicking a link or an element). It looks like this “close” link appears over some of the links or other page elements, so it is possible to click some links/elements but the rest are like inactive. When I click this “close” link, it disappears and all links/elements become active, until next refresh/redraw of the screen.

So, if someone have had any problem like mine, give me a hint, please!
    Thank you in advance!

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-One theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

It was a problem with WP Simple Galleries plugin, and to be more exact, with the colorbox library file jquery.colorbox-min.js.
This plugin is a little bit outdated (some 8 years ?? ), and because of that jquery.colorbox-min.js stays in its 1.3.4 version. But on Jack Moore web site there an 1.6.4 version is laid. So, I just replaced my outdated file with the new one, and viola, nasty “close” disappeared.
This was a kind of brute force resolving of the problem, but it worked to me.

Thank you for the advice James!
