Strange character encoding

  • I’m working on plugin and save some data in the meta field.

    The normal value it has in admin panel is this “Kalávrita”, but once it has been saved it becomes “Kalu00e1vrita”

    In another post I found someone who said I should try to set the charset and collate to utf8 in the wp-config, but that doesn’t change a thing.

    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ‘utf8_general_ci’);

    Any ideas would I need to do to make sure the name doesn’t get messed up in the database when saving the meta field?
