• I’ve been having some bizarre things happening at my website, CapitolAnnex.com (using the Lorem Ipsum theme), and am unable to determine why or how to fix it. The main problem is that, when I access the homepage of the site, I see the following URL written out (not as a hyperlink) followed by a “ShareThis” link:

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/summary?siteUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.capitolannex.com%2F&hl=en

    This link is typed nowhere in my header file, or any other file. I literally have no clue how or why it has started showing up above the logo on my site.

    I’ve posted this to the Google Webmaster’s tool group, and got a response that was way over my level of understanding, and told me the url was in my header (it is not) but also claimed that I had “huge chunks” missing from my header, which I also don’t understand and am hoping someone can help me with:

    `Because you have it there in your source code.

    Your web page is missing great chunks from the head. Missing doctyep,
    <html> tag, all other head tags.

    This is what you have in what should have been the head:

    <!– Start Of Script Generated By WP-PostRatings 1.20 –>

    <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”https://capitolannex.com/wp-content/

    media=”screen” />

    padding-left: 20px;
    padding-bottom: 10px;
    font-size: 10px;
    white-space: nowrap;
    }

    </style>

    <script type=’text/javascript’ src=’https://capitolannex.com/wp-content/

    rel=’stylesheet’ href=’https://capitolannex.com/wp-content/plugins/
    advancedsearch/advancedsearch.css’ type=’text/css’ media=’screen’ /></
    head>`

    Please help if you can. These difficulties are very stressful.

  • This is difficult to analyze without having the source code, but the gist seems to be that somewhere in your header file, there’s an incomplete script that refers to the Google webmaster tools. Because the script is incomplete a string that it generates is echoed to the HTML instead and shows up on the page.

    That isn’t the case, however. It isn’t in the header or anywhere else. The same link stays up there even when I change themes, so there is some other bizarre problem at play here.
