    Hi,
I have strange behaviour when I activate custom sidebars. I like what this plugin does but it is behaving very strange and I’m affraid it can compromise the whole website at any moment.
What happens is that when I activate the plugin there are some things that are changed without my intervention.
Examle: I setup the widgets for the sidebars in the Presentation / Widgets area. Then I go to Pages / Home and I make the relation between each module of the home page and the sidebar I want to show.
    Everything works fine.
    I deactivate the plugin.
I activate the plugin again and see:
    1) Some widgets disapear from the sidebar where they where
    2) Some sidebars changed content
    3) Some correspondences module/sidebar in the Home changes
    4) One of these correspondences usually dispears and the sidebar shows none

    Can you explain these?
Has anybody else experienced this behaviour?

When I make new sidebars to substitute others I don’t know if I’m doing eveything correctly. The new sidebar wroks correctly for the section or article I want.
But in relation to the existing sidebars that are not to substitute I don’t know if I should use the option Allow this sidebar to be replaced or change anything in Sidebar Location.
    Can you explain this, please?

I would apreciate your explanations so I can correct any errors I’m making in order to use this very useful plugin.

    Thank you
    Ajar

  • Hi Ajar,

    Hope you’re doing well ??

Once Custom Sidebars is activated you will have two types of sidebars in your Appearance > Widgets panel, left side is where Custom Sidebars are shown and in right column you will see sidebars registered by your theme.

Widgets added to Custom Sidebars are moved to inactive widgets if you disable plugins, right side sidebars shouldn’t be affected in any way because of deactivation.
I also tested this now on my installation to be sure something didn’t change in the meantime and as expected none of the widgets from default sidebars are moved.

    Did you experience different behaviour?

If you enable “Allow this sidebar to be replaced” then you will see sidebar selector when adding/editing post or page, this will allow you to place custom sidebar in place of the default theme sidebar.
If you have that option enabled but don’t select any custom sidebar it will show default one.

Hopefully this will clear things up a bit and let us know if you have any additional questions about this.

    Cheers,
    Predrag

I may be experiencing a similar situation. When I do major updates to my Weaver Xtreme theme, all the sidebars get scrambled. My client has close to a hundred of them, and it’s a major job (that I cannot bill for!) to reattach them.

How can I prevent this from ever happening again?

    Hi @omnidrew,

Sorry to hear you had similar issues after the update, but per forum rules can you please start new thread with your issue so we can investigate it further?

    Thank you,
    Predrag

Will do… thought I was experiencing the same situation as the OP.
