    Why do I get 2 different types of WP updates. On some of my sites I get WordPress 4.2–en_US and on others I just get WordPress 4.2?

  • First place I would look is in wp-config.php for define ('WPLANG', '');

    Although Site Language has been moved to an Admin Panel (General Settings), you may still find remnants of older versions of WordPress that had WPLANG set for one reason or another.

    Nothing like that in the wp-config file. Any other ideas?
