Straneg issue with unpredictable Large Thumbnail size

  • Hello, and thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

    Just to reset everything, I deleted all my custom image size from my functions.php file, i deleted all uploads from the media folder, so that all was empty. I also emptied my browser cache in case that was causing problems.

    I have the media settings set as follows:

    and yet when i upload images and go to insert them via the media browser, i am confused by the Large image size. The thumbnail, medium, and full size images make sense. But where is this strange Large image size dimensions coming from?? Here is what I’m getting:

    The 630px dimensions doesn’t seem to correlate to anything (based on the full size image being uploaded)

    I need to set my won sizes using the functions.php file, but i want to better understand or resolve this first. It’s driving me crazy.

    Anyone have any ideas or can shed some light on what’s going on?
