• Hi, I know that someone already posted something similar, that the backup stops at 40% without any error. In my case the percentage is always different. Sometimes it stops at 20%, sometimes at 70%, right now it is stuck at 16%.

Sometimes it stops just at the beginning of the job, but most of the time during creating zip file. (I also tried other formats, same story)

this is what I get most of the time:

    2012/12/14 22:12.18: 1. try for database dump…
    2012/12/14 22:12.18: Dump database table “wp_commentmeta”

2012/12/14 22:12.19: 1. try for make list of files to backup….
    2012/12/14 22:12.20: 2487 files with 43.05 MB to backup
2012/12/14 22:12.20: 1. try to create backup zip (PclZip) archive…

There is one more thing that I’d like to mention – It did finished the job like maybe twice out of 20. I was aborting and restarting the job over and over again until it finally finished. Weird.

Yesterday, I started the job and left it for the night to see if I get any error in the morning or something. And what happened – today I cannot even login to WordPress and my website stopped working completely! I had to log in to the database and manually switched the plugin off in order to have my website back and running.

Final thought: I’d love to use this plugin as it has great reviews and it seems that many people use it – but I cannot rely on a plugin that gives me such troubles. I’d like to see this plugin actually working. I’ve tested it on 2 other websites (wordpress 3.4.2 and 3.5) with the same results.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers.

    Hi Daniel

I’ve tried changing the format to Tar, similar results. But it is really hard to tell when it’s better because it stops randomly. Last time it managed to finish creating archive file but stopped during sending it to Sugarsync.

I’ve also tried to exclude some folders, but cannot see any plugin cache folders, maybe I simply don’t have them.

And this is my hosting provider: https://www.unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk

I’m having the same problem with the latest version of BackWPUp across multiple sites Daniel. It just freezes at the point where it tries to create the backup package — it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s set to zip, tar and gzip, or what. I’ve tried looking at the code, but I haven’t found anything obvious yet.

I think that the Hoster checks the PHP prozess with a external Programm.
If the PHP prozess uses to many recurces it will killed.
But i don’t konw how i can detect it.

In Version 3 i have added a option the restarts the process on every step, so that every sep hopfuly needs not too many recurces.

Thanks Daniel. Once again, I have to say, you’ve done a wonderful job with this plugin. These kinds of minor problems are only to be expected. We’ll see if restarting the process at each step does the trick. Cheers mate.

Daniel – I asked the guys from my hosting provider about your idea, and they said that once you implement that it will work without issue, which means you’re probably right about PHP processes using too many resources. I don’t know if this will be the case for everybody – but would definitely improve something here.

Thanks! I’m awaiting the next update!
    Cheers.

Will came with Version 3 in the next days.
