Stop some categories showing on homepage?

but I don’t want these categories to appear under the ‘Shop by category’ page (which they do when I add a new category).

So whichever categories are the first 4 will get displayed.

When I add a 5th category though that does show on a new line. So each row has 4 categories but when a 5th is added, it adds a new row beneath the top one.

How can I limit it to 4 categories please?

Categories are usually displayed on pages that aren’t the shop page by the product_categories shortcode Click here for more about this shortcode.

You can use the limit parameter to set a maximum amount of categories to show, like this for one row of 4 categories:

[product_categories columns="4" limit="4"]
