    Hi there – we have a problem under these conditions:

    • A subscription is selected for checkout
    • It’s set *not* to auto-renew
    • PayPal is used

    Outcome:
    The payment method is being saved to the user’s account. This looks like their PayPal email.

    When the issue comes up:
    Many users will attempt to manually renew a year later. Because their PayPal email was saved to their account, it looks like they can just click a button to renew.

    But, they get an error.

    I understand this has to do with PayPal billing agreements.
    I’ve instructed them to delete the saved payment method from their account and try again – works every time.

    So question: How do I stop the payment method from being saved to the account in the first place, but only when auto renew is *not* checked?

    It seems you are trying to tackle a symptom rather than the root cause. Instead of preventing the saving of the payment method, it would be more beneficial if you could provide us with the exact error message your customers encounter. This way, we can address the actual issue at hand.

    When buyers have a saved payment method, it allows them the convenience of a one-click payment confirmation. Currently, we are not aware of any issues related to this feature.

    It’s not clear why an error arises when using the saved payment method, and that is something we should investigate further. Rather than focusing on preventing the saving of the payment method under certain conditions, it might be more effective to get to the root of why the error occurs in the first place.
