My understanding is that Yoast pings search engines each time you hit “Update” on a post. The issue with this is that it can lead to your site being seen as a spam if you clicking “Update” constantly. Is there a filter to limit these pings?

    Hello @theinternetnerd

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin. By default, Yoast SEO pings Google and Bing when you publish a new post with the URL of your XML sitemap. The search engine can easily find the new URL and index it by doing this.

Please take a look at our developer portal on how to disable search engine pings.

Hi, I’m aware of the filter to stop the ping. I’m not trying to stop the ping entirely but to control how often it is pinged. My understanding as mentioned on the original support is that Yoast pings each time you click on the Update button( unless that not correct).

I need a filter i can use to customize that ping from happening each time I click on Update. If I update a post 5 times within a short period( say within 10 minutes), I don’t want it pinging search engines five times in that time.

Oh? I see what you mean. Yes, each time a post is updated, Yoast SEO will automatically ping search engines to have them come to crawl the sitemap.

However, we currently do not have a filter to control how often search engines are pinged when you make an update. You could create a feature request, though.
