• Hi,

We have over 400 products, and it would be very useful to have native support for a Stock Location within the Stock Management tab for both simple products and variable products.

It is not possible for us to arrange items by SKU (for example), both due to size & weight constraints of our shelves and the items, and adding new line items, so the only real way is to have a free-text Stock Location field against each product & variation.

Any assistance you can provide to adding fields like this (even pointing me in the right direction to add the support so I can submit a Pull Request) will be greatly appreciated – or even better a confirmation that it’s coming in core very shortly!

    Thanks!

Can you elaborate on what ‘stock location’ would be used for, perhaps linking to an existing idea on ideas.woothemes.com?

The ‘stock location’ would be a warehouse, storage rack, shelf, or bin, or a combination of the above, which the store manager uses to manage their stock.

There is probably no need for it to be anything other than a free text field.

This would provide flexibility for users to use their own naming for locations, from as simple as “Shelf 3” up to the likes of “W8 R7 L3 B3” as “Warehouse 8, Row 7, Location 3, Bin 3” for larger stores.

I have had a search on ideas.woothemes.com but the search term ‘stock location’ matches both ‘stock’ and ‘location’ which pulls up a lot of irrelevant topics!

There is a custom fields box per post/product. This allows open text.

The custom fields box is not available per variation, though?

I have variations stored in different places (as we add additional variations, the only available shelf space could be on the opposite side of the warehouse).

Would require some customisation to do that; The following article should point you in the right direction: https://www.remicorson.com/woocommerce-custom-fields-for-variations/

I have found that guide, and actually incorporated that previously – an update at ~2.4 broke it, and now any time I edit a variation, my custom field gets cleared.

Page says “The code has been updated for WC 2.4+ If you need compatibility for WC “. Maybe your code needs an update too?
