In WooCommerce, is there a way to keep track of the stock levels of items that are not actually for sale — but decrease in count whenever something is sold?

For example: boxes. Say I wanted to keep track of the stock levels of the boxes that I use to package products whenever someone orders products. Is there a way to do that in WooCommerce?

  • Hi,

You can create a new product and set the product to private. That way, it won’t be purchasable, but you can manage its stock along with other products.

Thanks. And how would that automatically decrement whenever a particular product was purchased?

Core WooCommerce doesn’t have the feature to automatically reduce stock of another product. You’d need to use a plugin like this (https://woocommerce.com/products/chained-products/) or consider customizing solution.

The non-products that I’m trying to track are things like boxes I need to use to package the products sold when I ship them. Is the Chained Products the solution for me?

Wondering if what I’m trying to do is related to “raw materials”?

    Hello,

Chained Products can link boxes as chained products, and reduce their stock when the main products are sold. If you have any additional questions about this plugin, please contact us at?WooCommerce.com > My Account > Support. You may need to create an account before you can access that page.

Not sure, but feel free to look for a different plugin.
