    Hi,
    I have been unable to access my wp-admin dashboard for some time now and am unable to make changes/update my site.
    I have tried renaming the plugins folder, I have tried renaming the theme folder as advised but I still cannot get into my dashboard. I see a series of links to everything on the left of my screen but if I click one I get the message: Oops! That page can’t be found.
    I had a conversation with my hosting service the other day and they said that I had two deny codes in my htaccess files which were causing the problem and deleted them for me.
    The files were:

    <FilesMatch “.(py|exe|php)$”>
    Order allow,deny
    Deny from all
    </FilesMatch>
    <FilesMatch “^(about.php|radio.php|index.php|content.php|lock360.php)$”>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </FilesMatch>
    They were in public_html –> wp-admin –> .htaccess

    Should these files not have been deleted? If not how do I put them back, or is there something that I can try to use to repair my dashboard.

    I am desperate to get this resolved as at present none of my pupils who are in group tuition can book lessons and I cannot update anything.

    Thank you.

    Replace the .htaccess with the default WP one, as I said above. Delete the .BAK file.

    @sterndata done all of the above and still get the page can’t be found message The new .htaccess is now the only one in the root and has permissions 0644

    @sterndata I have just been clicking random links in my dashboard and some are working. A few of the WooCommerce and a couple of others and I was able to install the updates for WooCommerce, but anything to do ith the building or editing of the site is not working e.g. products, pages etc. etc.

    Go to SETINGS->PERMALINKS and click “save” to reset your permalinks.

    OK, let’s focus on that one. Is WooCommerce working otherwise? Did you remove the .htaccess file from wp-admin? What happens if you disable all plugins other than WooCommerce?

    @sterndata

    The .htaccess file on wp-admin has been deleted

    Just seen this on my dashboard.

    Your theme (NewShop eCommerce) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce. Suggestions to fix this:

    Update your theme to the latest version. If no update is available contact your theme author asking about compatibility with the current WooCommerce version.
    If you copied over a template file to change something, then you will need to copy the new version of the template and apply your changes again.

    If I press add to basket either nothing appears in the basket, or if it does I can’t check out.

    I was able to update the Woocommerce database but am unable to access any of the other updates on the dashboard as I get the Page can’t be found message.

    I have to go to work so will pick this up again tomorrow.

    If I was to try to find a way of moving my site to a newer theme such as this one:
    https://themefarmer.com/product/newestore-pro/
    Would that then solve the problem?

    As always thank you for your assistance.

    Try installing a twenty* theme as a test to see if it fixes the problems you came here to solve.

    Hi @sterndata

    I have downloaded a Bitnami WordPress Stack Manager Tool so that I can host locally on my computer.
    I have opened Twenty Twenty-One in it, so how do I transfer my site across to it to see if it works?

    Or can this be done another way?
    I am unable to update or download themes etc on my present dashboard

    @sterndata
    I have uploaded the theme via ftp, how can I now get my existing site on to the new theme (which I have on a local host) without screwing up my existing site and have to totally start all over again.

    Thank you for being so patient
