    Dear all

A few months ago, the following issue has been discussed numerous times:

ERROR: This Pretty Link Slug is already taken. Check to make sure it isn’t being used by another pretty link, post, page, category or tag slug. If none of these are true then check to see that this slug isn’t the name of a file in the root folder of your wordpress install.

The plugin authors mentioned, the next release would fix this issue, but it still isn’t working.

This basically renders this plugin useless, since links cannot be updated.

I wonder, if this issue will ever be fixed. Better to resort to basic PHP link masking and cut working with plugins to do the job for you.

If I may add – just as an example: If there really is “something else” on the site, that conflicts with links being updated, why does the following example actually work?

General TAG in WordPress (slug) i.e. used in the comments area: /abc/
Pretty Link (slug) in use /abc/go-there

In this instance the slug is ALSO already in use AND it does update. On other instances, this does not work, even when the slug is ACTUALLY truly unique. Many months ago, this plugin did the job regardless. I believe, the problem may lie somewhere else.

    Cheers

It should have said next “major” version. Sorry for the confusion. Our 2.0.0 release is on the way which contains a much more forgiving slug validation algorithm.

    Hello Pretty Link Team

Thanks for your previous answer. For development purposes, I would like to give you more details on the randomness of the “slug already taken” issue, that has been causing me a lot of issues in the last few months and as a result implementing other solutions. However, where I heavily rely on Pretty Link, this is a different story of course.

    Nevermind, back to the issue:

I just wanted to add a new Pretty Link link, since I could not update two old ones that utilize the same slug – the old ones are (example):

/productA/go-here and the second one /productA/see-more

BOTH utilize the same slug /productA/ – so for one I wonder, how not too long ago I even managed to set up the second instance: /productA/see-more

Since it’s now impossible to update BOTH instances (links), I wanted to set up a third instance, for example /productA/see-even-more

It does not work! Also when changing the /slug/ URL name in the WP dashboard in order to make ANY amends or create a new instance of /productA/, it wouldn’t have it.

I cannot stress how much of an issue this is…

When is the next major version likely to roll out?

    Many thanks in advance
