Still not fixed – ERROR: This Pretty Link Slug is already taken
-
Dear all
A few months ago, the following issue has been discussed numerous times:
ERROR: This Pretty Link Slug is already taken. Check to make sure it isn’t being used by another pretty link, post, page, category or tag slug. If none of these are true then check to see that this slug isn’t the name of a file in the root folder of your wordpress install.
The plugin authors mentioned, the next release would fix this issue, but it still isn’t working.
This basically renders this plugin useless, since links cannot be updated.
I wonder, if this issue will ever be fixed. Better to resort to basic PHP link masking and cut working with plugins to do the job for you.
If I may add – just as an example: If there really is “something else” on the site, that conflicts with links being updated, why does the following example actually work?
General TAG in WordPress (slug) i.e. used in the comments area: /abc/
Pretty Link (slug) in use /abc/go-thereIn this instance the slug is ALSO already in use AND it does update. On other instances, this does not work, even when the slug is ACTUALLY truly unique. Many months ago, this plugin did the job regardless. I believe, the problem may lie somewhere else.
Cheers
