Still Getting Spam

  • I was away from Internet for three days, then came back to find 1700+ spam comments in my inbox, waiting to be validated. Certain spam rushes happen frequently on my blog, and since I get very few legitimate comments, I just decided to disable all comments. I went to the master controls and unchecked “Allow people to post comments”, then went through and disabled both comments and pings on every entry I’ve written. The problem is, spambot comments are still getting through – kinda defeats the purpose. Is there something else I’ve forgotten to do? It’s kinda ticking me off.

    I use the standard install for WP1.5.2 with no plugins or other modifications.

    That might be the main issue here.
    1. Without anti-spam plugins you cannot stop the spam.
    2. You have quite an outdated and vulnerable version.
