Still getting this when running backups:

    [31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] 1. Try to dump database …
[31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] ERROR: Cannot set DB charset to utf-8
    [31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] 2. Try to dump database …
[31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] ERROR: Cannot set DB charset to utf-8
    [31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] 3. Try to dump database …
[31-Mar-2013 15:05:54] ERROR: Cannot set DB charset to utf-8

Also, backups much slower than they were in prior numerical version. Any want to fix the above and optimize speed on my end? Thank you.

  • Experiencing exactly the same ERROR: Cannot set DB charset to DB_CHARSET (x3), and double the run time. WP3.5.1 BackWPup 3.0.6. Ideas?

I get the same error with the same setup as well. I had to take out the database charset reference to UTF-8 from the wp-config.php file because it was causing the content to spit out random elements throughout the site.

Is improved with next update, for blogs that has not set the charset in wp-config.php

Hey Daniel, it’s great you’re taking so much time to reply to these messages! When do you expect to finish the next update?

I think next week. We are curently make some tests.

Version 3.0.7 fixed this for me, on the 2 sites that were having the problem.

I can confirm the same as Chad. This problem is fixed for me as well. Thanks Daniel!

I am using version 3.0.12 on a danish blog.

    I have:
    Blog language da-DK
    MySQL Client encoding uft8_danish
    Blog charset UTF-8

And I am getting the error:
ERROR: Cannot set DB charset to uft8_danish

No database dump is added to the backup…

    What can I do?

    Thanks,
    Anders
