I disabled and uninstalled the Broken Link Checker plugin several years ago from two websites. But I have continued to receive dozens of broken link notifications weekly, sometimes daily, in my email.

I examined my WordPress installation via FTP, and there is no trace of the plugin in my plugins directory.

What the heck is going on? Does the plugin leave behind files in directories other than the plugin directory that might cause this? I’m stumped.

The emails come from noreply@https://(mywebsite.com). Does anyone recognize this as the standard wording?
A user tried to go to https://(mywebsite.com)/?author=18 and received a 404 (page not found) error. There must be a broken link on the site that you need to fix.
    The user came from https://(mywebsite.com)/

Thanks to ANYBODY smart enough to shed light on this or suggest how I might investigate further.

  • Hi,

Some plugins leave their tables in the database even after you delete their plugin.
Please check your database ( cPanel – myPHPadmin ) and look for tables with this name “blc_links” ( see screenshot ): https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/2993150/ecb43827d6456c4187f94416a4d968be

Make sure you have a solid backup first, then delete those tables from your database.
    That should do it.

    Hello Annie,

Thanks for your suggestion, it was a good one. It took me a while to find my way into the database, and unfortunately, none of my tables are named “blc_links” or have the letters blc in the name.

    Hello,

    Strange indeed!

Could it be you had some other service instaled to check links and send e-mail notifications?

Another work around you could try is to install the plugin again, then fo to settings and check not to get e-mail notifications, save that and then delete plugin again.

However, as you can no longer find the tables of that plugin, one would think that is nog londer possible…

Another excellent suggestion. I will try it and let you know what happens. Thank you for your interest in this.
