Still Confused On The Basics

Hello All,

I’m just starting out with using WordPress and building a custom theme for my website. I’m using the TwentyTen Five theme and I managed to make a child theme. One thing I’m confused about is how to add to the theme. For example, if I want to put a new div tag in under the wrapper tag I’m assuming I don’t edit the parent header.php. Do I create a new header.php in the child theme or somehow call the header in the child themes functions.php? Also any good guides on child themes, I used Google, but everything seems to be about Thematic and I get the same 20 guides talking about how to import all the style sheets for it.
