• Could anybody help me understand how this is done? I want to put an image into the sidebar at the top. Where do I upload my image to on the server, and what code/files do I need to insert this code into?

    Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Cheers

    ok, i uploaded in binary and re-uploaded the header php file . Guess what? No joy. Hmmm… what a pickle

    Well, I don’t think it can be a permissions issue…. okay. Have you done anything in your control panel or through your host tech support to prevent hotlinking images on your domain?

    not that im aware of – but i would certainly check if u could be so kind to point me in the right direction?

    If you have cPanel, there should be an icon for Hotlink Protection. If you have Plesk, or vDesk, or Ensim, I can’t help you but there’s probably a similar option in there somewhere. You’d access that area, then see if there was anything listed in the field it offers.

    And you might just email your tech support folks and ask if they have any idea why images uploaded to the correct folder would fail to display….

    ok thanks for your kind help. I cant see anything in the webhost admin. I tried altering permissions and still no joy.

    This is a weird one huh?

    I guess i am gonna have to resort to a site without images. booo

    It is strange. Perhaps one of the longer-term wp users will be around later and have some fresh ideas. It may be something very simple….

    one thought – i try to upload a html page to the root directory and when i try to view this page in a browser, it comes up with the wordpress site and an eroor 404 page.

    So, does this mean I need to install wordpress in a sub directory – in order to view non-wordpress files?

    In other words, could this be part of the problem?

    Hmmm. Yeah, that might cause a problem.

    Hope your nuts are still intact. You said you had the following in your sidebar:

    <img src="https://temperateminds.com/index/wp-content/lonely-island-10/images/clouds2.jpg" alt="Clouds" />

    Trouble is, you have an extra “index” in there. The following url brings up the image in my browser at least:

    <img src="https://temperateminds.com/wp-content/lonely-island-10/images/clouds2.jpg" alt="Clouds" />

    I’d suggest sticking that in your sidebar and seeing what works.

    Ah. He didn’t have the theme in the theme folder? Then how is it working? I’m confused….

    Not sure what you mean. Isn’t “lonely-island-10” the theme folder, inside the wp-content folder?

    It looked to me like there was just a typo in the url — that “index” in between the domain and the wp-content.

    Um. Yeah, but it’s supposed to be /wp-content/themes/lonely-island-10 – or did I miss some major change in the program setup while I was sick?

    Let’s get back to the basics: what are the two URI values in your admin > Options > General?
