I have downloaded the plug in ” Code Embed” and activated it. I made it so I can access the “custom fields” section of a new post, and I have the code I want to embed. I paste the code into the “value” section of custom fields, name it “code”, and then I input %code% into a post. Nothing happens. It just shows up as text within the post. What I am doing wrong???!

You should be using a number on the end of the name in both instances. So, in the custom fields name it code1 and then in the post use %code1%. This means that you can another embed in the same post, for example, and name that code2.

I have done that also, but it still just shows up as “%code1%” on my post.

What about the “code embed options” section under settings – currently it is saved as keyword CODE with % as the opening and closing identifiers. What should those be for effective embedding?

If you’ve not changed these, and it doesn’t look as if you have, then my example should work. Can you direct me to a post where you’ve tried it and it doesn’t work?

I can see the issue. Rather than the full post this is showing an excerpt – my plugin doesn’t support excerpts because of the potential pitfalls of doing this. Excerpts are limited to a certain number of text characters and shortcodes, etc, aren’t supported, otherwise you could end up wise a side bar with a massive video in it, for example.

What I may do for a future release is to add a switchable option so that, if you want to take the risk, it will work.

    Hm, okay.

Can you recommend a way where I can embed graphics/videos in a way that will work on WordPress?

I think you understand the issue here. This plugin does embed correctly, it’s just dangerous to add embeds to an excerpt. Are you genuinely happy with videos and large graphics to appear on that small sidebar on the side of your site?

I suspect any other plugin will treat your site the same way.

I do not understand the problem. I’m not sure what an “excerpt” is.

What I really want to do is embed this chart into my website:

    <script type=’text/javascript’ src=’https://public.tableau.com/javascripts/api/viz_v1.js’></script><div class=’tableauPlaceholder’ style=’width: 704px; height: 1169px;’><noscript><img alt=’Dashboard 3 ‘ src=’http://public.tableau.com/static/images/Go/Goal3_Weight/Dashboard3/1_rss.png’ style=’border: none’ /></noscript><object class=’tableauViz’ width=’704′ height=’1169′ style=’display:none;’><param name=’host_url’ value=’http%3A%2F%2Fpublic.tableau.com%2F’ /> <param name=’site_root’ value=” /><param name=’name’ value=’Goal3_Weight/Dashboard3′ /><param name=’tabs’ value=’no’ /><param name=’toolbar’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’static_image’ value=’http://public.tableau.com/static/images/Go/Goal3_Weight/Dashboard3/1.png’ /> <param name=’animate_transition’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’display_static_image’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’display_spinner’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’display_overlay’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’display_count’ value=’yes’ /><param name=’showVizHome’ value=’no’ /><param name=’showVizHome’ value=’no’ /><param name=’showTabs’ value=’y’ /></object></div>

    How can I do this?

The new release provides an option to allow code embeds in excerpts.

    David.

Kind of ridiculous that so many people are having the same problem over and over again. Whether or not there are work-arounds, it’s frustrating to spend so much time trying to get something to work smoothly. I’ve followed the many threads where people state they cannot find the custom fields section and never found a solution. While I know I’m not knowledgeable in wordpress, I am also an average user, the the user-friendliness factor is a time suck.

I think you’ve hijacked a different conversation – the post above is not about finding the custom fields section. However, yes, it has been mentioned in other posts. However, as this is a part of the WordPress core, it is out of my hands. By default it should be shown, but third party WordPress installers and themes may change this.

The alternative would be for me to introduce my own fields but that would only duplicate existing functionality and add bulk to this plugin.

    David.
