    Dear team Yoast,

If you have installed Yoast and you walk trough the configuration steps, you are forced to choose a Title Separator.

Now that is fine with me, but the text states:

Choose the symbol to use as your title separator. This will display, for instance, between your post title and site name. Symbols are shown in the size they’ll appear in the search results.

But this forced upon title separator also separates my flavicon from my website title “vgvids.com” in the browser bar.

I think this looks ugly, and I want to be able to have no separator, or at least no seperator between my flavicon and website title in the browser bar.

    Is this possible? Please help.

  • Not a bug.

Title separator only impacts the meta and page title and how it appears in SERPS and in titles for OG Meta for Twitter/Facebook etc.

The Favicon is shown by the browser, not by the title meta. So, in Chrome and Edge for example there is no impact at all. In Chrome the main issue is “site is not secure” warning since no https used. That’s the bigger issue.

Google, Bing, etc. don’t use the browser bar for your search results, only the meta actually “printed” on your page, which you can see in “view source” for a page/post.

You can set the separator in the settings panel, you don’t need to use the setup wizard; it’s just a helper if you don’t know what to do in going through all the panels manually; which is still advisable to know where everything is so you can ‘tweak’ for your site.

The ‘favicon’ has nothing to do with SEO and not managed by Yoast. However, you can turn off the separator if you wish from the Yoast panel. Super simple. ??

    (( I don’t work here. ))

    Dear Neotrope and/or Yoast team,

Thank you for the quick response, appreciated.

I don’t see in the Yoast menu in my Dashboard under which tab you switch the separator off. Could you please let me know under which tab/menu item this is exactly? I only see this under Yoast –> General –> Open Configuration Wizard. And you can’t switch it off there.

What I mean with the separator being ugly in terms of design in my browser bar is not actually the browser bar itself, but more the browser bar TAB. What appears in the TAB itself of the open browser website page is: the Favicon (website logo) and afterwards my site name: vgvids.com.

So now you see: Favicon (SEPARATOR like ~ ) vgvids.com. I just want: Favicon vgvids.com

    Hopefully you can help.

The separator is output when the title template includes the separator variable. You can change the SEO title templates in the settings under

    Admin > SEO > Titles & Metas*

    * If you do not see Titles & Metas, the advanced settings can be enabled by following the steps here.

Thanks, in the advanced menu now. How do you remove the title separator. For example, only in the case of the homepage?

Still not able to remove the separator between my favicon and website name in the tab of my browser pages.
