• OK. I’m confused now about an odd error I’m getting during installation.

I get to a page asking for my blog’s name and my email. I type those in (no dots, dashes, parens, apostrophes, etc) and when i click “install wordpress” i get:
    – HTTP Error 404 – File or directory not found.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

I checked the page properties, and it was ?Step=2

    I have verified the following
    1) the user EVERYONE (my web user) has read, write, execute, delete, etc. access.
    2) no new tables have been added to my database, however since i was previously throwing the ‘can’t connect’ error i’m pretty sure that i am now connecting to it.

Can anybody tell me what step 2 does? or what files it calls that might be missing?

alas and OF NOTE, my provider does not support wordpress, it supports this godawful thing that i installed, cringed, and uninstalled.

  • Don’t know whether this is the problem, but try it in Firefox instead of IE.

No, really. I ran into something similar using WP-MU. I won’t explain why unless that’s the solution, but give it a go.

alas no. it occurs regardless of browser and calling machine/ip.
