Stealing Content

  • Hiya, I have noticed that there are a few blogs that are stealing my content. I think I noticed a thread about this before but I am not sure. Basically there are a few blogs using blogspot using my and other blogs as their own content. I suppose they just do it to try and get people to click there ads. They always state a “content source” but I cant help but feel there is something a little unethical about it.

    Anyway, is there anything that can be done?

  • i sometimes wonder if the following would work:

    <style>body {display: none ! important;}</style>

    update: it works and DO NOT do it, you will need to delete your post or to edit the post in the DB in order to get rid of it! ??

    it might be an option to try and introduce this or a variation thereof in feeds.

    Maybe as a plugin. I publish a couple of sites under a Creative Commons attribution license and I don’t want something like that in my feeds.

    Using a short exerpt(SP?) is ok IMO, with a link to the site they got the content from. Keyword here is short.
    I see plenty sites quoting full stories from others, that’s just wrong.

    Not always. I’m aware of at least one site that quotes full stories, but gets them all from sites that are published under a CC Attribution-Share Alike or similar license that allows commercial use. Anything put in to control use of feeds is a great idea, as long as it gives control to the WordPress user. There are crazy folks like me out here who don’t care how our word gets out, as long as it gets out (and we get credit). Especially given that WordPress itself is open source software, there shouldn’t be anything required by WordPress that limits the flow of information.
