• Hello!

I’m noticing way more listens across the board than I believe to be true…and it’s looking like iTunes is corroborating this difference.

For example, it says I have 93 listens today. Based on the general stats around iTunes…the average iTunes listenership on my podcast is 47%…and in general ~50% of iTunes listeners are on iOS 11 which allows for iTunes Connect to count their stat…(93*.47)*.5= ~21 listeners should be reported to iTunes Connect. They show I’ve had 1 listener today.

As far as all-time listens, SSS reports I’ve had 311 listens in iTunes. Using the same numbers ((311*.47)*.5), there should be ~73 listens all-time in iTunes. There are only 14 listens reported all-time in iTunes Connect.

I’m not sure what’s going on here, or if ANY of my stats can be trusted. Would love some help getting this setup to work correctly if I don’t have it setup right on my end!

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this. As far as how Apple Podcasts stats are measured I can’t say, unfortunately. I’m sure you understand that their reporting algorithms are proprietary and not something we (or anyone else) has visibility to measuring.

As for SS Stats I can tell you that a major difference, as you pointed out, is that we measure not just iTunes/Apple Podcast stats but also Google Play, Stitcher, etc. as part of our analytics. Basically anywhere that your feed is being read and audio files for your podcast being requested.

If there is a discrepancy between the two I would assume that it lies in either the minimum payload that is transferred to be considered a “listen” or filtering out of Bot/Crawler user agents to avoid any artificially inflated stats.

Happy to chat more about this if you’d like, just let us know.
