I want to transfer my website to a static host, not least because I don’t have the technical knowledge to maintain my site as it is anymore. But that also means I lack the knowledge to transfer it. Generating a static package does nothing – the Generating spinner just spins forever. The activity log says “Waiting for new export” and nothing else. The diagnostics page shows nothing at all. It’s probably for one of the following reasons, as listed in the FAQ:

    • No real domain connected to your installation (Can’t make requests to itself)
    • No SSL certificate running on your server
    • A proxy setup prevents fetching pages (which usually happens with Docker setups)
    • WP-Cron is disabled

The problem is I have no idea what to do about any of these things. If you go to my site (www.geoideas.net) you will get a “not secure” message. I think this is an SSL certificate problem but I’m not sure.

I really need some hand holding here. I would potentially pay the maker of this app or someone else to transfer my site to static. I just want it on the internet, cheaply, and not have to deal with the technical problems. It’s an old travel blog which I haven’t updated in years and don’t really need to again, but I don’t want it to disappear.

Any help much appreciated! I have no idea what I’m doing! Thank you.

Hello Harv696. Sorry you are having trouble with your export. As a first step, I would recommend correcting the SSL on your website and trying the export again. If after correcting the SSL the issue remains, try disabling all plugins except Simply Static and changing the active theme to a default WordPress authored one like Twenty-Twenty Four and running a new full export. If the export is able to finish correctly enable each plugin needed by your site one by one running a new full export after each to determine if a compatibility issue exists with a plugin of theme on your site. If you still are experiencing an issue I would recommend contacting a web developer to help.

What’s a good starting point to figure out how to correct my SSL? I know you can’t see my hosting website but can you say where to look in general terms and maybe I can find it.

Like I said, I really need hand holding on this stuff.

I figured out SSL at least. Thanks.
