I just installed a fresh wordpress and copied some content from the previous (very basic) site. After setting up the startpage to show one of the pages generated, the content of this page is displayed twice on the start page. This only seems to happen with Theme Twenty Seventeen. I tried this with other themes (Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Fifteen, Albino Mouse) and it did not happen with those.

I could just give up and chose one of those templates instead, of course, but a) those don’t fit my needs (and taste, I admit) and b) I’d like to get an idea how to handle issues like these, so I can go productive without worrying, what future updates & changes might bring along.

I did google and search inside this forum, but found only solutions, that don’t seem to fit with my template or the content of the files front-page.php, functions.php referred to there.

The URL to the page in question is https://wpw.stimmbaend-hannover.de/

The only plugin I use is “Open external links in a new window” and the described issue existed before I installed or activated this.

  • the front page template shows the content of the static page which is set as the front page and the content of up to four panels, if they are set.

you have set one of the ‘panels’ to be the front page content as well.

Thanks a lot Michael for your hint. This put me on the right track:
The issue is caused by NOT selecting anything at all for “Front Page Section 1 Content”. By default all four dropdown selectors for all of the sections are empty.
Unfortunately that causes the issue I experienced.

Solution: From Customizing – Theme Options I chose “— Select —” for “Front Page Section 1 Content” to populate the empty entry.

    Before:
Front Page Section 1 Content blank

    After:
Front Page Section 1 Content blank

I would have expected the same result for not selecting anything at all and chosing the — Select —” option. In both cases “nothing” is defined as content for section 1, but leaving the field blank – which it is by default – causes the static startpage to be displayed twice.

Please consider this a change request.

I have the same problem. My site is pages only, no posts. I have it set to display ‘Home’ as a static front page. When I go to the home page, now ‘Home’ and its content shows up twice in the scroll-down. I see above convo, but I’m not clear what’s said – there seem to be some missing images.
I do see that in the panel, under ‘Appearance – Menus’ in the ‘Pages’ box under ‘view All’. Home is listed twice. How do I get rid of the second one?
    Help, please.

    Hello,

I’m having the same issue as each of the above posters put; however, the solution that swing0n4star mentions didn’t fix the problem for me. Does someone happen to know the fix–or what I might be doing wrong?

    -Michelle

    Hi All,

Had this same issue, only in Twenty Sixteen, and creating a custom child theme — a WordPress guru buddy of mine suggested seeking out duplicate (or unneeded) copies of the line of code:

    the_content();

from the file: page.php (or, in my case, page-home.php) which was found out using the Plugin: What Template File Am I Using.

Once I removed that line of code (line 19 for me), the duplication of the home page content ceased.

    HTH,

    S
