mhornsby – Thanks for trying out the theme. You can create a new page, then go to Settings > Reading and set this new page as the Front Page. Then go to Appearance > Customize and hide all the other front page sections.
The theme was made to cater to people who want to set up a special front page with multiple sections and we wanted to make it easier for them to use that feature. That is why if you want a simple static page with no other sections/content – you’ll have to go through the above steps.
Otherwise, once you set up the static front page, you’ll have the options of setting up the multiple front page rows and sections.
