Static HTML pages redirect to WordPress blog

  • I have a few static HTML pages that I would like to be able to display on my site other than my wordpress blog. My wordpress is set up to be the root. So for example, if you type in https://www.mydomain.com, it takes you to the first page of my blog. However, if I want to have static HTML page that isn’t managed by my blog, like https://www.mydomain.com/staticpage.html, it redirects you to my wordpress blog instead of displaying “staticpage.html”. I have messed around with my permalink structure and deactivated my flickr plugin, but I still can’t get it to work. I’ve looked through the support forums, but haven’t been able to find any help. I can’t imagine I’m the only one that has run into this. Any ideas on this one? Thanks in advance.

  • I use a folder under the webroot for all non wordpress files. So the link would go to https://www.somesite.com/pages/static.html

    I have tried that, but everything still redirects to my blog. Is there a way to exclude a certain sub-folder, such as “pages” from the blog. It doesn’t matter what I type in after https://www.somesite.com …. it will always redirect you to my most recent post on the blog, unless it is some other valid URL, of course. Any other ideas. Thanks for your response.

    Realize this is outdated question but in case anyone come looking with same problem or suggestions..

    I was trying to solve the same problem few days ago. Putting the file (in my case it was a pdf) in a subdirectory still redirected to 404 within WordPress. I understand why this happens, but it still leaves a problem. My solution for now is that I had to put the pdf in a subdomain rather than a subdirectory.

    Have the same question and wondering if there was another solution other than using a subdomain.

    My issue is that I have my forum installed in a subdirectory /phpbb3/ and want to provide a link to it without WP grabbing it.

    I’m using “pretty” permalinks and understand that this is the reason for this behavior but I’m hoping I can have both.
