Static Hompage with only background or background w/ video embed

I just established a static home page for my blog but I am having trouble figuring out how to remove the header, the content area, the sidebar, and the footer from the theme. Basically, I only want there to be a graphic that is the background w/ a “coming soon” text graphic. That being said, I want the background for the actual blog to be different.

Secondly, for the static homepage, in a few weeks I want to embed a video on top of a background with a link (possibly a graphic that appears as a link) to the actual blog.

Does anyone know how to do this?
