• The static page with posts option simply does not work. I am running WP 2.6.2 with no plugins activated with Kubrick as the theme.

    I created two new pages;
    homepage
    blog

    I created three new posts;
    post 1
    post 2
    post 3

    I went to Settings > Reading
    Selected ‘A Static Page’
    Front Page = homepage
    Post Page = blog
    Saved Changes

    When I view the homepage the ‘homepage’ page displays but no post appear below that.

    I have tried the same exact thing on a different server running 2.5 and got that exact same result.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks.

  • I think you may be confused about what the feature means. If you want your posts to show up on your home page, then do not use the static page feature – if you want different content on your home page then your posts you want this setting, otherwise leave it the way it was…

    If you do want different content on your home page, then edit the “homepage” page you created, and populate it the way you want…

    The “Static Page” wording on the Settings >> Reading page should really be replaced with “Use Page Template:”

    Really what this setting is asking is whether you would like to use the theme’s index.php file as the homepage or some other template file.

    Template files can be static or dynamic depending on their contents, so, while the template file could be a “static page with posts” this functionality is something you would have to create in the template file, wordpress doesnt create this for you.

    In this case, your homepage template file would need to contain a custom wordpress query that loops through posts according to your specified criteria. It could also contain static content in addition to these dynamic posts.
