static homepage created but not showing in Reading Settings drop down

    A WP newbie, I’m having problems setting up our first pages.
    A homepage and blog page have been created, though published as private not public.

    However, when I try to set the static front page and the blog page in Reading Settings, the drop down for selecting a page only shows Sample Page, and similarly when I try to set the home page and blog page using Customize > Customize Homepage.

    Please would you advise how to sort this?

  • You can’t simultaneously designate a page to be private and the home page, so as you have found, the private pages don’t show up in the list to choose from.
    Change it from private to public and them you can choose it for home page.

    I will do as tou say.

    As a WP beginner, I am making LOTS of mistakes, ‘m just glad there are people out there willing and able to help.
