Static Home Page Custom Template Not Working

Hi,

I have created a child theme for the Twenty Seventeen theme and I have set my homepage as a static page (Page name: Upside Down). I wanted to have just the homepage as a different landing page to the rest of the site, so I created a custom template (UpsiDedown.php) and assigned that template to the page “Upside Down” in the page attributes section. However when I reload the page nothing changes. If I assign this page template to a different page I get a blank page (as there is nothing currently in the template) so this shows me it’s working with other pages.

Could anyone help me figure out why the custom template won’t work with a static homepage, or if I should be going about this in a different way?
