• I am currently using the ComicPress theme with my WordPress site. I would like the home page of my site to NOT be the newest comic I posted. I know I can check a preference to make it not do that, and I can set a widget to show the newest comic post (and/or newest blog post) as a thumbnail in the sidebar. But then the center of the home page is just blank.

    What I WANT is for the home page to display a constant static image, like a cover graphic, and I would also like to display a link on the home page to the FIRST page of the comic. My problem is:

    1) I can’t figure out how to upload something to the home page unless it’s a post, and
    2) I can’t figure out how to get a first page nav link to display where there isn’t a comic page showing

    I previously asked this same question in the ComicPress Forum and here is the response I was given:

    “create a home.php file the way you want it to look and plop it into your child theme / parent theme whatever you’re using”

    Unfortunately this presumes PHP knowledge that I do not possess. I do not know how to “create a home.php file” and I do not know how to “plop” it into a theme.

    If you could direct me to someplace where I could find information on how to do these things, or better yet advise me of a simpler way to achieve my goals, I would deeply appreciate it, thanks.

  • You can create the page you want to display under the “Pages” section. Once it is created, go to Settings >> Reading and select the “static page” option and your newly created page from the drop down list.

    just make a page called whatever you want your home page to be, through the WP page editor, adding whatever content you want.

    then make a page called blog, or posts, or whatever you want you blog/posts page to be called

    go to settings->reading

    set front page displays static front page

    from dropdowns, select the appropriate pages you just made for your static front page and your posts page

    Thanks, the above suggestions have cleared up most of my problems. However, I still can’t see how to add a link to the first page onto this new static home page — what am I missing?

    Maybe I should clarify: I can add a link but I don’t know how to make it appear as a standard nav button that looks the same as the nav links on the comic posts. I thought it would be nice if I could maintain that visual consistency?

    Can you provide a link?
