• Hi there,

My site was set up by a helpful friend with coding knowledge, however, now I’m running it and I’m running into some issues – not surprisingly, since I don’t know the first thing about coding or using WordPress. I hope you’ll bear with me and my questions – I’ve muddled through with tutorials so far but I’m a little stuck. My website is https://www.taralemana.com. I want to create a static front page and have found a tutorial that tells me how to do this, but when I do, the front page has the same theme as the rest of the site, including the banner, menus etc. I’m using the WordPress TwentyTen theme. What I want to achieve is something more along the lines of this example: https://www.brodiejayne.com/ – a relatively plain page with just my business name, and two different images or links that direct the visitor to two different places – one to the existing site, the other to a yet to be created, separate page.

Is there a way to modify the existing theme to remove basically all the content and adding in just the two links, or do I need to install a separate theme for the front page?

Thanks so much for your help, apologies if these questions are plebian!

    Tara

  • First, you’ll need to create a child theme of Twenty Ten so you don’t edit the theme files directly.

Then you’d need to create a custom page template that looks like the new static home page you envision.

Once that’s done, create your new home page by going to Pages -> Add New. Set the Template to your new custom page template.

Follow the tutorial’s instructions for setting this page as the static home page and you should be all set!
